Addis Ababa –  Ethiopia has the capacity to host the Africa Cup of Nations and is ready to discharge any responsibility regarding this, Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen said.

Confederation of African Football (CAF) delegation led by the President Isa Hayatu today discussed with Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn and his deputy Demeke Mekonnen about development of Ethiopian football.

After the discussion, the Deputy Minister told reporters that Ethiopia is undertaking activities which will enable it host the Africa Cup of Nations.

Ethiopia is now in good position to host the Africa Cup of Nations, Demeke said.

The discussion was focused on ways of supporting the Ethiopian football, Demeke said.

President Issa Hayatou said CAF would be happy to give Ethiopia the chance to host the Cup, if it meets the preconditions.

According to him, he discussed with the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister on ways of supporting Ethiopian football program working on youngsters. He appreciated government’s efforts towards strengthening this.

This year’s annual CAF meetings will be held here in Addis Ababa from 12th to 20th of September 2014.

CAF chosen Addis Ababa to host this meeting because of the country’s improving performances, the President said.

The CAF President arrived in Addis Ababa on the night of September 10.
