Para, Brazil – The Ethiopian national soccer team, nicknamed the Walia Ibex, lost 1-0 to Brazilian club side Clube do Remo in a soccer friendly match played at the Evandro Almeida Stadium here today.
The lone goal of the match was scored by rookie striker Alvinho 18 minutes into the first half.
The Walias had only 12 players in their line-up, as 5 of their squad members couldn’t arrive on time due to flight problems.
The Ethiopian side included Jemal Tassew, Sesay Bancha, Ephrem Ashamo, Mesud Mohammed, Shemeles Tegegn, Andaregachew Yelake, Thok James, Abebaw Butako, Behanu Bogale, Mintesinot Adane, Akilu Ayanaw and Dawa Hottesa.
Ethiopia, which is drawn in Group B of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Algeria, Mali and Malawi, will play its next match on August 16.
