Oslo, Norway -Â Yenew Alamirew of EthiopiaÂ got his revenge on Kenyaâ€™s Caleb Ndiku, who beat him to the top spot in Eugene, to win the 5,000m race here at the ExxonMobil Bislett Games.
Alamirew’s winning time of 13:01.57 is one of the four world leads set here today. His fellow compatriots, Dejen Gemeskel (13:09.73) and Imane Merga (13:29.43) finished 7th and 14th respectively.
The 24-year-old grabbed his second IAAF Diamond League victory following first place in Shanghai, whilst 21-year-old Ndiku â€“ the world indoor 3,000m champion â€“ registered 13:02.15 in his wake.
Meanwhile, Olympic 10,000m silver medallist, Galen Rupp of the USA recorded a 13:03.35 seasonâ€™s best in third.
Alamirew revealed:Â â€œI won the Diamond League last year and I want to do the same this year. I think later in the season, I can be faster.â€
