Liverpool have announced they will play Ajax Cape Town in South Africa in a post-season friendly on 21 May.

The game, Liverpool’s first in South Africa since 1994, will be played at the Cape Town Stadium just two days after the final game of the English Premier League.

“This visit is part of our off-season activity and shows our commitment to bringing the club closer to our fans all over the globe, no matter how far away from Anfield they may live,” said chief commercial officer Billy Hogan.

“It will be fantastic for the club to return to South Africa after almost 20 years.”

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are regular visitors to South Africa for pre-season friendlies in recent years.
