Africa Clubs Championships: St. George to face Zamalek, Dedebit eliminated
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Ã¢â‚¬â€œ St. George FC of Ethiopia advanced to the next round of the Orange CAF Champions League, after eliminating Djoliba A.C. of Mali on 3-1 aggregate score.
The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in Bamako today, but St. George won the first leg match 2-0 in Addis Ababa two weeks ago.
Djoliba led 1-0 at half-time and St. George scored the equalizer through their captain Degu Debebe.
St. George will face next Zamalek of Egypt, who eliminated Vita Club of the Congo 1-0 on aggregate score.
St. George played without Adane and Alula Girma, who didn’t join the team in Bamako due to injury.
Meanwhile, Dedebit FC, EthiopiaÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s representative in the Orange CAF Confederation Cup, failed to take home field advantage and were held to a scoreless match by Al Ahly Shandy of Sudan here today. AsÃ‚Â the Sudanese side has won the first leg match 1-0, they advanced to the next round on a 1-0 aggregate score.
DedebitÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s top striker and the current Ethiopian Premier League top goal scorer, Getaneh Kebede failed to convert a penalty kick 34 minutes into the first half.
