We missed many opportunities in Sudan – Dedebit striker Getahun Kebede

Getahun KebedeAddis Ababa, EthiopiaDedebit striker Getahun Kebede is a leading scorer in the current Ethiopian Premier League season, with 12 goals from 13 games. He recently scored the late and only goal for Ethiopia in their win over Botswana in the World Cup qualifier. Kebede sat down with Cafonline.com to talk about the upcoming match against the Sudanese side Al Ahly Shandy in the second leg of the Orange CAF Confederation Cup.

Cafonline.com: How do you see Sunday encounter against Shandy?
Getahun Kebede: I am very optimistic that we will win. We have seen them in the first match. We played quite well and created many clear scoring opportunities. Their goal attempts were  less than ours and taking all this into consideration and on our turf and in front of our supporters l think we will win on Sunday.

Cafonline.com: It seems your confidence comes from your current rich scoring form but do you expect that you will score on Sunday?
Getahun Kebede: The point is not that I score but what is needed is the win for Dedebit to qualify to the next round. You know if we win and qualify we will have another CAF Confederation Cup matches. That is a very wonderful chance. Whoever scores what matters most is our advance in to the next round.

Cafonline.com: Last home game in this competition you lost at home, how will you avoid this against Shandy?
Getahun Kebede: No, I don’t think it will happen like that this time round. Even in the first leg in Sudan we had created many scoring opportunities but could not finish them . On Sunday we will be very careful not to waste such chances. When you play on home ground you feel confident that you know the surroundings well enough and because you are accustomed to playing on that turf time and again it helps you so l hope it will be possible to score goals before reaching that tense situation.
