Misikir Demissie defends Hong Kong Marathon title

Hong Kong – Misikir Demissie of Ethiopia defended her Hong Kong marathon title here today by finishing first in a time of 2:30:49.

She was followed by fellow Ethiopian athlete Makda Harun who took second.

Demissie, who represented Bahrain as a youngster, before going to live in New Mexico five years ago, was never really challenged for the victory. She always looked in control, heading the pack, until she broke away at 35km.

Men’s Marathon

Julius Maisei of Kenya took, the runner-up at last year’s edition, won his first Hong Kong Marathon title in 2:14:18.

Maisei’s compatriot James Kariuki Mbugua improved from last year’s third place to take a silver medal with the result of 2:14:28, while the bronze medal went to Deribe Robi of Ethiopia, who finished 9 seconds later.
