The Confederation of African Football has revealed the seeding for the draw for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ivory Coast are among the top seeds, despite the abandonment of their second-leg tie with Senegal and no news of an official result from CAF.
The Ivorians were 6-2 up on aggregate when Saturday’s game in Dakar was called off because of crowd violence.
Tournament hosts South Africa are also among the top seeds, along with reigning champions Zambia and Ghana.
Cape Verde, who qualified for the first time in their history by pulling off a shock 3-2 aggregate victory over four-time champions Cameroon, are in the fourth pot.
Also among the lowest-ranked teams are 1962 champions Ethiopia, who have qualified for the first time since 1982.
The tournament takes place in South Africa between 19 January and 10 February 2013.
Teams in the same pot cannot be drawn against each other. The draw will be held on 24 October in Durban.
Seedings:
- Pot one: South Africa, Zambia, Ghana, Ivory Coast
- Pot two: Mali, Tunisia, Angola, Nigeria
- Pot three: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Morocco, Niger
- Pot four: Togo, Cape Verde, DR Congo, Ethiopia.

Having gone through the exagerated comparision of Ethiopia vs Sudan with David vsGoliath,by CNN, what I would like to say is that, do not compare what is un comparable. Any way we, i.e. our boys made it! what is remainig now is to get red of all the mis- concept on what we deserve and do well on our vital and immediate home work. Who knows …
First of all I would like to thank the team for the achievement which was unbelievable. The contribution of all time sport funs and sponsors is also admirable. The confidence the national team to score and win away games is well built and these hopefully will be reflected in the nation’s cup.
This being in place we have enough Ethiopians supporters living in South Africa more over the South Africans themselves will stand on our side. We have to do some home to let tour South African brothers that we have long standing relation and stand together with them during the Apartheid era. It was Yidnekachew Tessema who firs initiated to ban the then Apartheid South Africa from the African cup of nations and any FIFA games. Moreover Mandela and other leaders were trained, armed and financially supported by us.
Just doing what they have been doing so far is enough to see off any team. Remember we led Nigeria at their ground before they thrashed us 4-1 at their home. And it is Ethiopia that made Nigeria fail to qualify last time around by holding them to 2-2 at Addis. Our team is getting better and better. Keep up the good work.
Players … please keep your condition to the highest standard. It is not over yet. We want to see a World Cup qualification. This is our time. This is YOUR time. you worked hard and you deserve it.
Do not let the name of the big guns scare you. You can see that Cameroon failed because it is not the name that matters, its what you do now, at the moment. Good luck. Good luck. Good luck.
Qulifying is the first achievment that pleased all of us the las but not least is to be compitant in the tournament. what to do then
.sufficient preparation
.Inclussion of all who have exposure and expirience in international games/FOOT BALL
.Devising fund raising methodes and schedules ( ex. as applied by the athletics group etc)
AND THEN TRY TO CHANGE THE NAME ALLOCATED TO US,.. LOWEST RANKED…
.. IT IS POSSIBLE!!!
congra to all ethiopians, great achievement from our national side, this is the begining no matter the grouping is, they(the team) should be psychologically strong, nothing is impossible!
Hoping our group looks like this
Zambia, Angola, Niger and Ethiopia
In my opinion there is nothing to worry about, the biggest challenge was to qualify, as to whether we will reach the final or win is not an important issue, it will come in time ones we start qualifying. What matter now is to do a good match even if we loose I am already excited.
ajiray,
I don’t think you understand how the grouping work, my poor friend. Those are pots, not groups. Teams on the same pot are not going to be in the same group,
When we avoided the first 2 groups. Those are not death group, those are going to hell group. Dang!!!!
