Agency to confiscate properties of Great Ethiopian Run

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - Charities and Societies Agency of Ethiopia, a federal entity tasked to register and regulate non-governmental organization (NGO) operating in non-profit business in the country, has decided to confiscate all assets of Great Ethiopian Run (GER).

The Agency that was established in 2009 following the new and controversial CSO proclamation has made a desk audit to clearly understand the activities the Great Run and eventually it found GER operating against CSO proclamation, Assefa Tesfaye, Head of Public Relation with the agency told The Reporter.

The Public Relation also said that during the auditing process, the agency has confirmed that over 10 million Birr and other properties are found at GER’s bank account and in its office respectively.

The Great Run was registered as NGO in 2001 to undertake a mass street running race in accordance with the proclamation. According to Assefa, the agency, however, found GER’s activity as a profit making business which is legally restricted by the proclamation. Read full story on the Reporter.
