Sudan recorded the biggest Afcon qualifying win of the day after beating Ethiopia 5-3 in Khartoum.
The hosts took a 3-1 halftime lead at Al Hilal Stadium in Omdurman on Saturday night before Ethiopia gave them a scare with a dramatic second half rally in this Red Sea derby.
Mudathir Careca put Sudan ahead in the seventh minute before Seyoum levelled for Ethiopia seven minutes later.
Momhmad Bisha put Sudan back in the lead almost immediately and Musab Omer stretched the home side’s lead 15 minutes from halftime.
Ethiopia clawed one back in the 50th minute through Adane Girma before his teammate Biydglesne restored parity in the 68th minute.
Mohammad Eltahir made sure of the home win with two penalties in the 85th and 90th minutes to make sure Sudan travelled to Addis Ababa armed with a comfortable score line for the return leg on October 13.

I watched the replay if the match. Let’s face it, both teams won’t make it out of the first round in south Africa.
In general, ok result for our guys. Their immaturity showed its ugly face. Our goalie has great instincts ( he guessed right on both penalty kicks) but he coughs up the ball too often. He also doesn’t get help from his defense (see how they all are standing with hands on hips when the second penalty is initially blocked. Same for the Sudanese second goal)
Ref was fair. I would have called both penalties as well. We have to understand that modern football is more than just dribbling around (we are good at that) it is physical, it is making sure you don’t lose the ball carelessly, it is playing ref psychology. Till we understand that, we won’t do well.
if the coach of Ethiopian team was Tom sent fit , for sure Ethiopia would qualify for CAN 2013

Not only the referee but also some our players should stop provoking referees specially west African.. and defenders should realize where to stop and tackle the opponents player before they get in dangerous area. I have seen such mistakes a nomber of times in previous matches (eg ref Alahly Egypt vs st.George). Abeba Butako was good before but he made a couple of times silly mistakes this times such as unnecessary faults. Where is Salahdin. There is a rumor that there is some misunderstanding between him and the coach. Is that true? He was the decisive for so far. If so, the problem must be resolved so soon. The boy is important to the team at the same level as Sewinet does.

Agree with Bisrat. Ethiopia were punished for being naive. A combination of flappy goal-keeping and below par decisions by the referee, Sudan have the advantage. The match was even on performance with Ethiopian playing an open game as if they were playing at home.
The Sudanese were diving too many times and were being awarded for that an indication of something is wrong. The Ethiopian team should be aware of that and should read the psychology of the players and referees beyond and above playing good football. One more thing Ethiopians should do was that to pay match attention in the penalty area when opponents are looking for a penalty with an idiot referee like this one. Very very unfair referee, the result in Addis will determine as to whether Sudan deserved the win in Khartoum.
Sudan will be beaten by a big goal difference in Addis the reason is all their goal are not real convincing goals and their win is fake.
The second penalty may have a been soft, but in modern football you cannot be naive and stick an arm or a foot at player in the penalty box. The Sudanese players were smart and took advantage of the lack in experience of the Ethopian defenders.
Our defence was equally poor and gave away 2 easy goals.
Overall, I think the fair result is a Sudanese win and let’s see what happens in Addis in two weeks time.

I think Ethiopia can still make it to the finals in south africa despite the shamefull decisions by that referee. We just need to have the goal keeper correct his errors and with saladin said fit for the match in Addis, we won’t have any problem scoring 2 or 3 goals.

Both penalties were too soft specially the second one, the defender actually got the ball in the second one.
I watched the Benin game in the summer, the goalkeeper was good then. I dont know what happened to him. Didnt look confident at all. Sudan were lucky with the penalties. They can be beaten in Addis with the same performance.
The temprature was said to be too humid.

The refreee gave this game to the Sudanese, simply put. Not sure if they should play at all of CAF comes up with these types of inept refrees. Totally useless. Useless, Useless, Useless.

You will be the judge. Personally, I’m happy to see our team score 3 goals away from home, but I’m also disappointed by our goalkeeper’s errors: lack of focus & quick reaction by our defenders and terrible decision by the referee, who awarded Sudan 2 penalties.
