    @Sam,
    she does have the raw talent, I was impressed by her gain in the final lap. But I think there was something sinister in the final seconds… I think she got hurt… she may have pulled a muscle or something like that, i thought she got the 3rd place but all of a sudden u see her lose it and her face grimacing,

    I haven’t heard nothing from her as to why her leg buckled at the end. Please forward a link to that page if you find one. I am disappointed on results of 1500 and men’s Marathon.

    Races less than 5,000 Meters have not been the realm of our runners. That is why I think Abeba did not do that bad. She is still young and provided she stays healthy I believe there is a lot of winning potentials in her. We should all stand together and give her a loud round of applause. Once she masters tactics of the race she can be extremely hard to beat. Good luck young lady!!!

    It is the worst result for Ethiopia comparing to the past , also we do not have strong men athletes in 5000 and 10000 which was our traditional victories , the other problem was training athletes till injuries in Olympic fields which missed medals in women race of 800 and 1500 .. will EAF revise for future strategy????

    Hope our 5000 guys learn from Abeba’s mistake

    Abeba has an excellent potential to win this 800 race for olympic gold but she failed to make use of her capacity due to a critical mistake by keeping herself in the middle of the pack until the last lap and some 100m left before the finish line. Staying behind or inside the pack requires enormous energy in the last round to catch up with the frontliners! This is a big mistake which the coach should have explained to make her aware of before the competition had started. She should have adjusted her position in good time and stayed close to the frontliners during the second lap or before the last 200m, but she didn’t. This is a TECHNICAL MISTAKE.

    I believe she will learn a lot from such mistake and will advance to a successful victory soon. She has enough potential and sprint to win! Keep it up! Good luck!

    Clearly her tactic was off because she run a whole 10 seconds slower than in her semi-final!!

    I think Abeba made a critical mistake due to lack of experience!!!

    I believe she stayed WAY behind the front pack for too long — until the last round or so which is not wise. That meant she had to use a LOT of energy in the last round to catch up with the top 3 since she had to come up from way behind the pack!! That took too much effort out of her leaving her without enough energy for the last 100 to 200 sprint!! She should have stayed close to the front group when there where at least 2 laps left in the race. If she had done that, all she had to do in the final lap was maintain the same pace as the top 3 until the final 100 meter or so and then sprint away from them in final few meters. But instead, since she was way behind the front pack, for almost the entire last round she had to run at much higher pace in the than anyone else in order to catch up with the front group; that unfortunately left her with no energy for the winning sprint!!

    I believe she will learn from her mistake and will do much better in the future……..there is no doubt she has the raw talent; she just needs to improve her tactics!!
