Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – St. George FC defeated arch rival Ethiopian Coffee 3-0 here today in a match marred by crowd violence.

The two teams have the largest followings in the country and tension is always high when they face each other. And today was no exception.

According to the Addis Ababa-based weekly sports newspaper, Libro, the match was interrupted 32 minutes into the first half after fans of the two sides clubbed each other with chairs and fists.

The match did not resume until 16 minutes later, and even then, the fighting continued, the paper reported on its website.

And to make matters worse, the stadium floodlights were turned 3 minutes before the end of regulation time..
