Yaya Village – New High Altitude Training Center in Ethiopia

Sululta, Ethiopia – Yaya Africa Athletics Village PLC (Yaya Village) , a new high altitude training center for domestic & international athletes and a 4-star recreation facility, has began its operation after a two-year construction work here on the outskirts of the capital, Addis Ababa reported the weekly Capital Ethiopia.

Yaya Village was established in 2009 by Joseph Kibur, an Ethiopian-Canadian businessman in partnership with double Olympic gold medalist Haile Gebrselassie, Belay Welasha and Temesgen Alemu. Joseph owns 90% of the company’s share while Haile owns 5%.

The recreation village, which is located 11 km north of the capital, lies on 50,000sqm and has a hotel, athletics and recreational facilities. According to the information obtained from the founding share holder and former athlete, Joseph Kibur, the hotel has currently 30 beds which he claims are of the same quality as a  four star hotel. The gym is 250sqm wide while it has a 700sqm roof top terrace.

In addition to rooms, the facility has various amenities both for athletes and non athletes including a restaurant, bar, gym, steam bath, sauna, horse riding, foot ball field, running lanes and kids play ground.

The company targets athletes. It provides a high altitude training package which includes accommodation, food, a running guide, and use of all other facilities starting from 55 dollars per day. It has also arranged special rate for local athletes to be able to use the facility on daily basis at a monthly rate of 550 birr.

The company has already entered in constructing the second phase of the project which includes a swimming pool, tennis court, mini golf and a hotel.

The recreation facility which is aimed at creating a world class training facility for athletes both locally and internationally has already created 50 job opportunities.

Eco-Tourism
Yaya Village is committed to the development of the surrounding community. As such it follows the concepts of “green tourism” by employing local people whenever possible; recycling waste, growing vegetables and spices in its own organic farm, planting trees and indigenous plants and educating its staff and visitors about energy conservation. In addition it will provide scholarships and other assistance to help the development of young Ethiopian athletes, women in particular.

Girls Running

Although the life of women and their standing in the community have improved in recent times, historical and traditional Ethiopian values have disadvantaged them. Yaya Village aims to contribute its share in improving the life of women through athletics. As such we have decided to partner with willing charities in providing scholarship to young women runners. These scholarships allow them to live in Yaya Village for 12 months. During their stay they get full accommodation, food, full use of the facilities as well as coaching from experienced trainers.

I really admire the motive to get to this kind of big investments. I would be happy if the government has come with this kind of PUBLIC serving facility. But the contagious disease “corruption” must be the case as otherwise there was piles of money collected from the public in the past….ehhuuuuuuu…
I wish you all best dream turned to high level service provider.
