‘Running for a Child’ raises 1 million Birr

Addis Ababa– A 1.4-km children’s race jointly organized by the Great Ethiopian Run and also Plan International Ethiopia was held here on Saturday under the theme “Running for a Child”.

“Running for a Child” has set a new record this year by raising more than one million Birr.

Some 4,000 children took part in the race.

Athlete Haile Gebreselassie on the occasion said such events help to create new athletes for the country.

In addition a 2012 London Olympic program known as International Inspiration enabled children with physical disabilities take part in 800 meters race.

About 36,000 adults are expected to take part in the 11th edition of Great Ethiopian Run here on Sunday.
