Mengistu Worku Ethiopia Cup: St. George defeats Mugher 3-1 to clinch title

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia –St. George FC clinched the 2010/11 Mengistu Worku Ethiopia Cup title with a 3-1 victory over Mugher Cement here this afternoon, reported EthioFootball.com.

The tournament, which was formerly known as Ethiopia Cup, was renamed Mengistu Worku Cup in memory of the greatest Ethiopian soccer player of all time, who passed away on December 16, 2010.

This marked the 3rd Ethiopia Cup victory for the Saints since the introduction of the new Ethiopian Premier League and the 13th overall since the beginning of the Ethiopian Championships back in the 1940s.

St. George opened the score 36 minutes into the first half thanks to a goal by Shimelis Bekele, who joined the club from Hawassa City this year. Mugher responded 8 minutes later through Kibrete Ayele. And that’s how the two teams went to their dressing rooms at half-time.
