CECAFA Kagame Clubs Cup: St George held to a 1-1 draw by Ulinzi of Kenya

Morogoro, Tanzania – Ethiopia’s representative St. George FC was held to a 1-1 draw by Ulinzi of Kenya in the Group C opener of the CECAFA Kagame Clubs Cup here today.

The Saints played with 10 men after Abebaw Butako was sent off on the 84th minute for a second bookable offence on a Ulinzi player.

IPP Media reported that Ugandan Sula Matoyo scored for St. George eleven minutes into the first half, but the Addis Ababa-based weekly sport newspaper, InterSport, said that the goal was actually was scored by Saladin Said.

The Kenyans equalized through Stephen Waruru on 51st minute.

Ulinzi will meet Djibouti’s Ports on Thursday as St.George prepare to meet APR in a mouth watering encounter.

In the post match interviews Ulinzi coach Nyangweso was happy with the draw, “I am content with the draw but I will have to work on my defence which did not coordinate well today.”

His counterpart from St.George Italian Giuseppe Dosena told SuperSport.com “I am happy with the draw since the players were tired after playing five matches back in Ethiopia and we did not have time to recuperate otherwise we hope to make amends in the upcoming matches.”

The tournament is being held in Dar es Salaam and Morogoro, a city located 190km west of the capital..

Group A: Simba SC of Tanzania,Vitalo (Burundi), Etincelles (Rwanda) and Ocean Boys(Zanzibar).

Group B: Yanga (Tanzania), El Mereikh(Sudan),Bunamwaya(Uganda),and Elman (Somalia).

Group C: APR of Rwanda, St.George (Ethiopia),Ulinzi Stars(Kenya) and Ports FC from Djibouti.
