Haile Gebrselassie wins 4th Manchester 10km Run

Manchester, UK – Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia won his fourth Great Manchester 10km Run here today reported BBC Sport.

Gebrselassie, 38, who beat Britain’s Chris Thompson, said: “My big challenge right now is trying to be better than the youngsters.”

He added he hoped to compete in the marathon in the London 2012 Olympics.

Thompson, 30, the 10,000m silver medallist at the European Athletics Championships last summer, finished 11 seconds behind Gebrselassie, who won in 28:10 and praised the Briton for mounting a challenge.

He said: “I didn’t expect that from this boy. He ran so great.”Click to play

Thompson said: “It’s great for him to be humble enough to say he thought I pushed him.

“I felt the time wasn’t amazing but I’m going to keep enjoying myself and I’m in races now. I’ve got to think of nothing other than racing these guys. It hurts like hell, but that’s why I love it.”
