Ethiopia generates $70 million revenue from Leather Export

Addis Ababa -Ethiopia earned $70 million revenue from the export of leather and leather products over the last nine months, according to the Ethiopian Leather Industry Development Institute (ELIDI).

Berhanu Sarjabo, ELIDI’s Communication Director, told Ethiopian news Agency (ENA) that this year’s  revenue was $30 million higher compared to last year’s figures at the same time.

He said that the revenue growth was due to shared experience from potential countries and to the increased volume of export finished products.

The director also noted that $8 million was secured from finished leather products including shoe, leather cloths and other products.

The country’s leather export revenue is expected to reach $500 million a year after five years, according to Sarjabo.

Ethiopia’s leather products are exported to Asia, Europe, North America and several African countries.
