Olympic Women Soccer: Ethiopia takes on Ghana on Sunday

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Ethiopian national women soccer team “Lucy” will take on the “Black Queens” of Ghana here on Sunday for the Second Round qualifying for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The Black Queens led by Coach A.K. Adusei arrived in Addis yesterday with 18 players.

Ethiopia beat DR Congo 3-0 (0-0 & 3-0) and Ghana defeated Guinea 7-1 (2-0 & 5-1) on aggregate scores to reach the second round of the competition.

Lucy’s coach Abraham Tekle Haimanot said that the team has made good preparation for the match and he is confident that they can beat the Black Queens, now that team captain Zeytuna Yassin and striker Birtukan Gebre-Kristos, who missed the DR Congo encounter due to injuries, have joined his squad.

In other matches, Cameroon will face Equatorial Guinea; Nigeria will take on Namibia and South Africa will square off with Tunisia.

The top two sides will represent Africa at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
