Fire Hiwot Dado clinches 3rd Straight Rome Marathon victory

Rome, Italy – Fire Hiwot Dado of Ethiopia became the first woman athlete to win the Rome Marathon race 3 years in a row here today, when she finished first in 2:24.13, followed by fellow compatriot Goitelom Tessema (2:26.21) and Kebebush Haile (2:27.39).

Meanwhile, defending champion Siraj Gena (2:09.20) had to settle to second place behind Dickson Kiptolo Chumba of Kenya (2:08.44) in the men’s category. Dawit Abdullah, also of Ethiopia finished third (2:09.41).

Women’s Category

Fire Hiwot Dado took the Rome title in 2009 (2:27:08) and 2010 (2:25:28) , and also won the last edition of the Florence Marathon last November beating rainy and cold conditions.

Haile Kebebush Haile, who finished runner-up last year in the Italian capital in a new PB of 2:25:31, had to settle to third place this time.
