State generates 166.4 million Birr revenue from tourism

Bahir Dar (ENA) – Amhara State obtained over 166.4 million Birr revenue from tourists who visited tourist attractions of the region in the past six months, the state’s tourism and parks development bureau said.

The bureau told ENA the revenue was secured from over 800,000 local and foreign tourists.

It said Semien Mountains, Castles of Fasil, Lake Tana Monasteries and Lalibela Rock-Hewn Churches are among the tourists destinations.

It said the revenue and the number of local and foreign tourists excelled that of last year’s same period by over 50 and 40 percent respectively.

The number of local tourists has increased by 90 percent which he said “remarkable”, the office said.

The office attributed the success to coordinated promotional activities and expansion of tourism infrastructures.

The sector has created 5,280 jobs, it was learnt.
