Ethiopian Athletes dominate Marrakech Marathon
Marrakech, Morocco – Ethiopian athletes dominated the 22nd edition of the Marrakech International Marathon here on Sunday winning both the men and women marathon races.
In the men’s category, Girma Beyene (2:10.22) finished first with compatriot Shumi Gerbaba (2:11.08) and Mourad Maaroufit of Morocco coming in second and third places respectively.
In the women’s race, Wudnesh Nega led an Ethiopian sweep clinching four of the top five spots. Soumia Labani’s (2:37.08) came in second.
Half-Marathon
Mulugeta Wendimu (1:02.00) won the men’s race. Kennedy Kumutai of Kenya was second five seconds back, with Morocco’s Mostapha Elaziz (1:02:09) third.
The only race that Ethiopian athletes did not fare was the women’s half-marathon, where Seada Kedir finished fifth.
