Ethiopia Football: Sheikh Al Amoudi donates 100 million birr for Mekelle Stadium & road project

Mekele, Tigray – Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Ali Al Amoudi, the Ethio-Saudi billionaire and patron of St. George FC, has donated 100 million Birr (a little over $6 million) for the construction of Mekele Stadium and asphalt paving in the city.

The Mayor of Mekele, Negussie Gebre told Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) yesterday that 70 million Birr will be used for the construction of the stadium, which is currently underway, and the remaining 30 million for the road construction.

Mayor Negussie noted that the money would speed up the construction of the stadium which lagged behind schedule due to lack of funds.

He said Sheikh Al Amoudi also made a 30 million Birr donation for road construction, as part of his 50 million Birr pledge for the city.

Sheikh Al Amoudi had previously donated 20 million birr for the same project.

It’s just a showoff, how many promises he made before for some fantastically sound projects? … just to mention some; Selam Hospital, St.George’s Stadium, Agro-industry close to Awassa…

Why not first finish St.George’s stadium???

    “?? ??? ???? ??? ????!”

He is paying back, “pay to play”. Let’s see, when everyone loss their land holding in Addis for not building on time, he gets the pass. Not only he gets a pass, but he does it in style, he gets the city to apologize to him. If you look at many of his holdings, no activity has taken place for a long time and it is everyone else fault but his for not doing anything.

  13. Bisrat says:

The development of everything starts in infrastructure including sport, a wise donation!!!

  14. Shanko says:
