Addis Ababa – Are you looking for Ethiopian Premier League defending champion Saint George? Don’t look up; they are there at the bottom of the league table with just a single point out of four matches.
The financial support of club patron Sheik Mohammed Al Amoudi and an Italian coach at the helm of a squad filled with the best talents of the country and half a dozen of foreign players couldn’t help Saints recovering from a chaotic start of the season.
With three defeats at the hands of Adama Kenema, newcomer Lideta Nyala and Dire Dawa Kenema, the Italian way of football appears to fail. The disappointment among Saint’s fans is reaching a momentum. More than eight starting squad members are on the injury list, but this is not an excuse for a side with enough quality and manpower to win the championship.
With all this misery at the defending champion’s side, an opportunity falls in the lap of coach Guissepe Dosena with a two weeks break as five of his players compete in the SECAFA Cup Final in Tanzania. A side that contributes four or more players to the national squad is not obliged to play in the league.
Club supporters believe Dossena can turn the tie by the time the league match resumes for Saints. In the mean time, Defense Force*, under local head coach Ashenafi Bekele, is leading the table with twelve points, four wins out of four games.
