Ethiopian-born Alemayehu Bezabeh of Spain prepares for European Championships

Atapuerca, Spain – Ethiopian-born Alemayehu Bezabeh and his Spanish compatriots will use Sunday’s 7th Cross Internacional de Atapuerca race (8,925m) as a testing ground to prepare themselves for the European Cross Country Championships, which will be held here on December 12, 2010.

After winning the race here two years ago, Alemayehu failed to beat eventual winner Gebre-Egziabher Gebremariam of Ethiopia last year.

Alemayehu, who holds the Spanish 5,000m record (12:57.25), usually trains in Spain and in his native country, Ethiopia. His main competitors on Sunday will be Joseph Ebuya of Kenya and Teklemariam Medhin of Eritrea.

Women’s Category

The women’s race will feature Kenya’s reigning World champion Emily Chebet and Ethiopia’s World Junior Cross Country and 5000m gold medalist and defending champion Genzebe Dibaba, the youngest of the Dibaba sisters.
