Ethiopian Football Coaches welcome foreign counterparts, Asrat cautions

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Ethiopian Premier League coaches have indicated that they welcome the arrival of foreign football coaches in the country as they can introduce new coaching methods in the country that they can learn from, wrote the weekly Capital newspaper.

Asrat Haile, the most successful Ethiopian national and club coach, who left Electric last year and currently is without a job, told reporters that he is in support of the new arrivals as long as they bring change and ready to share their international experiences with home coaches.

“I would have been much happier had they started at the grass root level with youngsters. I am not sure change can be achieved easily working with the senior teams,” Asrat cautioned.

There are currently five foreign coaches operating in the country: national team coach Iffy Onuora of Great Britain, Giuseppe Dossena & his assistant from Italy (St. George FC), Yordan Ivanov Stoikov of Bulgaria (EEPCo), and Mehmet Tayfun of Turkey and his Ghanaian assistant Sulley Mohammed (Dedebit FC).
