St.George to face Ethiopian Banks in City Cup Final

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – St. George defeated arch rivals Ethiopian Coffee 1-0 and Ethiopian Banks was forced to play a penalty shootout (6-5) with the surprising lower division side Weha Serawoch (Water Works) to reach the final of the 5th Edition of the Addis Ababa City Cup. 

Although Andualem Negussie scored the lone goal of the match in the 7th minute, it was Ethiopian Coffee that dominated the game and had better ball possession. 

National team coach Iffy Onoura, who attended the match, said that although he was impressed by the players’ ball movement, he was amazed by the lack of efforts by both sides to shoot at goal even from inside the penalty box.   

Ethiopian Banks beat Weha Serawoch 6-5 in penalty kicks after the two sides ended tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time. 

Ethiopian Banks reached the semi-final stage after finishing top of Group A with 3 wins and 9 points.   Meanwhile, lower division side Weha Serawoch started their Group B match with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Dedebit FC, followed by a gallant 0-0 tie with EPL champions St. George and a 3-0 victory over Defence Force. 

The final of the AA City Cup will take place on Sunday.
