Bislett, Norway – The name of Ethiopia’s Meseret Defar has become synonymous with the ExxonMobil Bislett Games in Oslo, the second leg of the six-meeting ÅF Golden League 2009, ever since her 5000m World record in the Norwegian capital in 2007.
Two years ago, Defar ran 14:16.63 in a terrific race that was memorable not only for the fact that she took nearly eight seconds off her own World record of 14: 24.53 but also because it was a fantastic duel with Kenya’s Vivian Cheruiyot, who also finished inside Defar’s old mark with 14:22.51. KCC of Uganda won a thrilling match against TP Mazembe on the second day of the Cecafa Club Championship.
Mazembe, from DR Congo, are guest entrants in the tournament for East and Central Africa.

Tirunesh Dibaba, the Olympic champion and world record holder for 5,000metres, has pulled out of her clash with Meseret Defar in Friday night’s Bislett Games in Oslo through injury.
The Ethiopian duo have built a keen rivalry in recent times and it was expected Dibaba’s world record of 14 minutes 11.15 seconds set in last year’s meeting would be threatened in their head-to-head duel. Read more…
Karim Benzema is poised to become the latest big-name arrival at Real Madrid after Lyon accepted a bid from the Spanish side for the highly-rated France international.
The 21-year-old is set to join Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo in signing a six-year contract at the Bernabeu after his French employers agreed to a 35m euro (£29.7m) approach from Madrid, who with this deal will see their summer spending spree pass the 200m euro mark.

Former St.George & Ethiopian national team player, Fikru Teferra, was transferred from SuperSport United of South Africa to first division club Mlada Boleslav
of the Czech Republic. Boleslav finished with 46 points in sixth position while giants Slavia Prague won the title with 62 points and Sparta Prague came second with 56.
The club is coached by Pavel Hapal, a 39-year-old former Czech international. In a career starting in 1986 and ending 2002, Hapal played for Bayer Leverkusen, Tenerife and Sparta Prague amongst others. Read more…

They beat Atraco of Rwanda 6-1 in their first game of the club tournament for East and Central Africa.
